About NOKEMON
A whole world, in a browser tab
NOKEMON is a free to play crypto MMO that runs in a browser tab, powered by Solana. No download, no install, no launcher. You sign in with a Solana wallet and you are standing in the world with everyone else who is online.
It is a creature collector, and it is also a place. That distinction is the whole point of the project, so here is what is actually in it.
407,200. That is how many creatures will ever exist.
Every one of the 608 species carries a supply cap the server enforces at the moment of capture. Add all 608 caps together and you get 407,200. That is the whole population of this world, forever, and it only goes down as species run out.
The scarcity is not spread evenly. 110 species have a cap of 40 or fewer. Thirty-five are capped at ten or fewer. Four are capped at exactly one, which means the player who lands one takes it out of the world for everybody, permanently.
When a species reaches its cap it stops spawning for everyone, and the ones already caught are the only ones there will ever be.
They live across nine biomes: the Plaza, the deep woods of Duskgrove, the water of The Lake, the sand of the Shores, the frozen reaches of Frostmere, the plots of Verdant Hollow, the open Wild, the Wild Extension, and the Primordial Vale. 137 of the 608 only surface in water, and you will not catch a single one of them until you forge yourself a rod.
Catching is a contest, not a dice roll
Throw a ball and the creature freezes in place instead of fleeing. Anyone standing nearby can throw at the same one, and everybody who throws gets a timing bar. The catch goes to whoever times it best, and the ball is spent either way.
Three tiers of ball hold the creature for longer and swing the odds harder, and the rarest species refuse anything below a certain tier. Read the whole thing in how to play.
Things to do that have nothing to do with catching
- The Titan Den. An Alpha with shared health that a whole room fights at once, through phases, with cubs joining in and a slam you learn to read. There is an entry queue at the door and the loot is split by what you actually contributed.
- The stadium. Full matches of soccer with real possession, tackles, steals and a goalkeeper. The match runs on the server, so nobody wins it by lag.
- Dying costs you. Fall in the Wild, the Wild Extension, the Arena, the Primordial Vale or Duskgrove and your bag drops as a grave on the spot, open for anyone in the realm to pick through. You have five minutes to get back to it. Your creatures, mounts, cosmetics and gold are never at risk: what drops is materials, balls, tools and potions.
- Guilds, with a chat that persists between sessions.
- Seven skills to level, up to thirty each: combat, woodcutting, mining, fishing, cooking, smithing and farming.
- A market where players list what they found for gold, and a bank to keep it in.
- Farming and harvesting. Plant, wait, gather, and turn what you gathered into something better at the forge.
- Trading with other players, face to face in the world.
- Mounts, so the map stops being a walk.
- The Wheel, the merchant, daily quests, and the arena.
The game sells no cosmetics. Players do.
There are 423 cosmetics in the game: hats, capes, glasses, tops, pants, shoes and a specials shelf. No shop sells them. Not for gold, not for $NOKE, not for anything. Every single one drops from playing, and there are seven places they drop from:
- Chopping trees, breaking rock, mining coal
- Fishing
- Crafting at the forge, which has the best rate in the game
- Catching a creature
- Bringing down an Alpha
After the drop, a piece only moves between players: face to face, or listed on the in-game market for gold. The market charges a 5% fee. Most of it is destroyed, a slice pays the buyer's recruiter, and none of it reaches us. Nobody opens a wallet and skips to the front. If you see somebody wearing something rare, they went and got it.
Free to play, and we mean the boring version of that
Gold is earned by playing and it pays for everything that matters: balls, gear, mounts, the shops. There is no token balance to hold before you can play, and no part of the world is fenced off behind a purchase.
This is what play to earn is supposed to mean, and it is worth being blunt about it: the value in this game comes out of the game. Nobody buys it in.
